Cold Weather Motorcycle Riding: How to Stay Warm

Cold Weather Motorcycle Riding: How to Stay Warm

As temperatures start to drop, motorcycle riders need to take extra care to stay warm while riding in cold weather. Below are some tips to help you enjoy your rides all season long!

Dress In Layers

Wearing multiple layers of clothing is key to staying warm despite the cold weather.

Start with a base layer consisting of a fabric that will wick away moisture (like any sweat created from a tiring ride).

Add a middle layer of insulating material to help add warmth.

Top it off with a waterproof outer layer. Even if there is no rain in the forecast, the weather can change in an instant and you'll be grateful for the waterproof protection!

Protect Your Extremities

Your hands, feet, and head are especially susceptible to cold weather, so make sure they're well protected. Wear gloves, boots, and a balaclava that covers as much skin as possible.

Block the Wind

A motorcycle-specific windbreaker or jacket will help keep you warm by blocking out the wind.

If your motorcycle does not have a windshield, consider investing in one. It'll help you stay warm and also help improve your rider endurance.

Don't Overexert Yourself

Riding a motorcycle is physically taxing. It's even more taxing in poor weather conditions! You may need to take more breaks than normal or go on a shorter ride than normal. Be sure to listen to your body and adjust your ride as needed.

By following these tips, you'll be able to stay warm and enjoy your motorcycle rides all fall and winter long!
